This privacy policy describes how the NZ OIA/LGOIMA Calculator API ("the Service") handles information when you use our deadline calculation service.

The Service is a simple API that calculates response deadlines for Official Information Act (OIA) and Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) requests by interfacing with the official NZ Ombudsman calculator.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

The Service is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect, store, or log:

• IP addresses (beyond standard Cloudflare security measures)
• The dates you submit for calculation
• The types of requests (OIA or LGOIMA) you query
• Search history or usage patterns

3. How the Service Works

When you use this API:

1. You send a request date and request type (OIA or LGOIMA)
2. The Service forwards this information to the official NZ Ombudsman calculator
3. The Service receives the calculated deadline
4. The Service returns the deadline to you
5. No data from this transaction is stored or logged

4. Data Processing

All calculations are performed in real-time. The only data temporarily held in memory is:

• A cached form identifier from the Ombudsman website (cached for 1 hour to reduce load on their servers)
• Your request during the calculation process (held for milliseconds, then discarded)

No personal data, request details, or calculation results are stored after your request is completed.

5. Third-Party Services

This Service relies on:

NZ Ombudsman Calculator

The Service interfaces with the official calculator at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz. The dates you provide are sent to their service for calculation. Please refer to the Ombudsman's privacy policy for their data handling practices.

Cloudflare

This Service is hosted on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process technical information such as IP addresses for security and performance purposes. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

6. Cookies and Tracking

The Service does not use:

• Cookies
• Analytics or tracking scripts
• Third-party advertising or tracking services
• User fingerprinting

7. Data Retention

We retain no data. Each API request is processed independently and immediately discarded after the response is sent.

The only cached data is a non-personal form identifier from the Ombudsman website, cached temporarily (1 hour) to improve service performance.

• Your conversation with ChatGPT is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy
• This Service does not receive or have access to your ChatGPT conversations
• This Service cannot identify individual users through ChatGPT

What Happens to Your Date Input

When you provide a date (e.g., "2025-01-15"):

1. It's transmitted via HTTPS to this Service
2. The Service forwards it to the NZ Ombudsman calculator
3. The Service receives the calculated deadline
4. The Service sends the deadline back to you
5. The date is immediately discarded from memory

What Happens to Your Request Type

When you specify OIA or LGOIMA:

1. It determines which calculator endpoint to use
2. It's sent to the appropriate Ombudsman calculator
3. It's immediately discarded after calculation

No Logs Policy

This Service does not maintain logs of:

• API requests
• Calculation queries
• User patterns or trends
• Error reports containing personal data

Standard Cloudflare infrastructure logs (containing IP addresses and basic request metadata) are subject to Cloudflare's retention policies and are used solely for security and abuse prevention.
